The International Youth Art Exchange (ARTeX) program of the World Awareness Children’s Museum has been inspiring, collecting and sharing international youth art since 1988. This program gives children around the globe the opportunity to communicate with each other through the universal language of art. It provides a unique view of their cultural lives as seen through their own art and eyes. These peaceful connections are designed to promote positive images of diverse cultures by planting seeds of understanding that will prepare children to be better citizens of our multicultural world. Ultimately this program will help to foster appreciation and respect for how we are different and recognition of how we are also the same.

Annual Art Competition & Exchange

Based on an annual theme, a call for submissions goes out yearly to schools, groups, organizations and individuals throughout the world. Each year the U.S. art is judged within age categories and First and Second Place plus Critic’s Choice winners are chosen. The winning U.S. art is accessioned into the Museum’s Permanent Collection and displayed on the website. Introduced in 2013, the Art Achievement Awards program recognizes the best of the Non-U.S. art received during the year and is also showcased on the Museum’s website. All participating artists receive Certificates of Recognition.

Each year selected American art is exchanged with foreign participants. Exhibitions of the art from the Museum’s collection are made available to U.S. schools, organizations and museums through our affordable Traveling Treasures Exhibitions for Loan program. This beautiful, artistic, and significant educational archive has grown to over 7,000 pieces of original international youth art from more than 80 countries.

Art Prints

Individual reproductions of art from the collection are also available for purchase. Contact the Museum at 518-793-2773 for more information.
