Events At The Museum: Jan. 12th – 19th

 

The World Awareness Children’s Museum is excited to announce our continuing series of seasonally themed events at the museum for January 12th – 19th, including our“Artists Adventures” series, which is a 6 week course that teaches children about the countries represented in our exhibits at the museum while also giving them a chance to showcase their artistic talents (which also learning some new techniques as well! Our upcoming events are as follows:

. Saturday, January 12th – Uttarayan Indian Kite Festival (11:00am – 12:00pm): Visit the museum on Saturday, January 12th for a truly spectacular event! Special guest instructor Neha Golwala will teach us about Uttarayan, the Indian Kite Festival! Children will hear a story about the festival, make their own kites, and eat some traditional Indian treats! Event is free with admission and runs 11:00am – 12:00pm!

. Fridays, January 18th – February 22nd – Artist Adventures (3:30pm – 4:30pm): Learn about our diverse world through art by creating your own miniature masterpieces at our “Artist Adventures” series, Fridays, Jan. 18th – Feb. 22nd. This 6 week art class series will teach children about the countries represented in our museum, while learning basic drawing and painting techniques. Children will get to take home one finished piece of art after each class, for a total of 6 pieces at the end of the 6 week period. Appropriate for children ages 8 – 12.

Cost: Members – $8 per session/ $44 for 6 weeks. Non-Members – $12 per session / $68 for 6 weeks. (Session cost does not include admission to the museum). Space is limited, so call us to reserve a spot today at 518.793.2773. Program runs 3:30pm – 4:40pm every week.

. Saturday, January 19th – Winter Paint & Sip (1:00pm – 2:30pm): Our popular and family friendly Paint & Sip series returns with guest instructor Patrice Jarvis-Webber guiding us on a winter themed art class! Event is $20 per parents/child duo ($5 for each additional child, $10 for each additional adult). Members receive a 50% discount. Please call the museum today to reserve your spot: 518.793.2773.

**And don’t forget about “Early Explorers Play Group”, every Thursday from 10:30am – 12:30pm, which is time for caregivers and their children to visit the museum, enjoy some light snacks, and form a community of encouragement and acceptance. Cost: $2 per family.*

The World Awareness Children’s Museum is excited to announce our continuing series of seasonally themed events at the museum for January 1st – 12th, including a “Russian Christmas Celebration”! Our upcoming events are as follows:

. Saturday, January 5th – Russian Christmas Celebration (11:00am – 12:00pm): Learn about Russian Christmas traditions at our museum Saturday, January 5th, from 11:00am – 12:00pm with special program instructor Natalia Carusone! We will do a Russian nesting doll craft, eat traditional Russian sweets, and hear a Russian holiday story! Event is free with general admission ($5, children under 3 are free).

. Wednesday, January 9th – Members Only Mornings (10:00am – 12:00pm): The museum will be hosting “Members Only Mornings” the second Wednesday of each month, 10:00am – 12:00pm, where members get exclusive time to visit and explore the museum. We have some truly fun and unique programs coming up (with a little something for everyone) we know you’ll just love, including:

. Friday, Dec. 21st – Christmas Puppets Workshop (10:30am – 11:00am): Let your children’s festive creativity shine as we make our own Christmas Puppets, Friday, December 21st! Event is free with general admission ($5, children under 3 are free).

. Friday, Dec. 21st – Parents’ Night Out (5:30pm – 8:30pm): Enjoy a night out on the town, or get some last minute shopping done as we host “Parents’ Night Out” at the museum, Friday, December 21st! Children will get to enjoy time playing in the museum, watching a winter-themed movie, and enjoy some light snacks. Cost: Non-members – $20 per child / Members – $15 per child. . Wednesday, Dec. 26th – Kwanzaa Craft Workshop (11:00am – 12:00pm): Visit the museum on Wendesday, Dec. 26, to celebrate Kwanzaa! Children will make a traditional Mkeka mat, Kinara candle holder, and Mishumaa Saba candles. We’ll also learn about the seven principals for the seven days of Kwanzaa: Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani. Event runs 11:00am – 12:00pm and is free with general admission ($5, children under 3 are free).

. Thursday, Dec. 27th – New Year’s Fireworks Craft Workshop (11:00am – 12:00pm): Celebrate the New Year early with our fun and festive ‘New Year’s Fireworks Craft Workshop’, Friday Dec. 27th from 11:00am – 12:00pm! Event is free with general admission ($5, children under 3 are free).

. Friday, Dec. 28th – Storytime Friday (10:30am – 11:30am): Join us as we read Shanté Keys and the New Year’s Peas by Gail Piernas-Davenport and make a black eyed peas craft to symbolize peace and good luck for the new year! Event is free with general admission ($5, children under 3 are free).

A Year In Review!

2018 was full of amazing milestones at the museum; from our new “Water, Water, Everywhere” summer programming and exhibit, to fun events such as Children’s Oktoberfest and our popular Paint And Sip Series. Our staff and board have been wonderful, and it’s their passionate dedication to our goal that helps us thrive and create exciting new events for you and your children!

Parents’ Night Out At The Museum! – 12/21

 

The World Awareness Children’s Museum is proud to announce “Parents’ Night Out”, a time where parents can enjoy a night out on the town, or get some last minute shopping done as their children get set to enjoy time playing in the museum, watching a winter-themed movie, and enjoy some light snacks. Cost: Non-members – $20 per child / Members – $15 per child. Young Artists Competition!

The World Awareness Children’s Museum is proud to announce our Young Artists Competition, with submissions being accepted October 1st through November 16th! The guidelines will be as follows:

Submissions begin: October 1st, 2018.
Submission deadline: November 16th, 2018.
Jury decision: January 11th, 2019.
Finalists art show: January 18th, 2019.

– Entrants must be a resident of Glens Falls, NY and in Kindergarten through 8th grade to be eligible.
– Our theme for the year is “Water, Water Everywhere”. Limit of one piece per entrant.
– There is a $5 submission fee that must be included with the submitted artwork. Payment by cash only, please.
– Submissions must be two dimensional artwork and cannot be larger than 16 x 20 inches.
– The work must be framed or mounted. Complete, artistic, colorful works are prefered (pencil, crayon, pastel, watercolor, etc.)
– A short note about the entrants art is a welcome addition. Please include if available. It should be paper clipped to the corresponding artwork.
– To be included in the judging process for awards, all artwork must be received by November 16th. Please submit art to: World Awareness Children’s Museum, 89 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY, 12801 or education@worldchildrensmuseum.org.

We will require filling out our Young Artists Competition form, which you can find/download here.

Winners will have their art reproduced on mugs, postcards, magnets, and more!

Any artwork and materials, by submission to the Young Artists Competition become property of the World Awareness Children’s Museum and cannot be returned. All rights are assigned to the World Awareness Children’s Museum for use, distribution or reproduction in the best interest of the museum.
