WEAR IN THE World? – New Exhibit Coming June 29th!

The museum is excited to announce our newest upcoming exhibition, “Wear in the World?”, opening on Saturday, June 29th at 10:00 am. “Wear in the World?” includes rarely seen clothing, textiles, hats, shoes, art, and dolls from the museum’s collections of international art and artifacts. Children can explore a textile marketplace while adults will appreciate the intricate designs and traditional styles from Nigeria, Iran, Indonesia, and western Europe. Children will enjoy various workshops throughout the summer featuring hands on weaving, designing, dyeing, and sewing.

**The Museum will be CLOSED Monday, June 17th – Thursday, June 28th due to construction of our new exhibit. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and we look forward to seeing you here on the 29th for our grand unveiling!**

Special Summer Programs!

Our popular “Unicorns, Dragons, And Other Fantastic Creatures” and “Mission: Earth” week-long programs return this summer, Monday, July 8th – Friday, July 12th (Unicorns), and Monday, July 22nd – Friday, July 26th (Mission: Earth), 1:00pm – 3:00pm daily! “Mission: Earth”

Join the World Awareness Children’s Museum in a quest to save the Earth this summer when we host “Mission: Earth”! We will work with our outer space friends to make the Earth a better place to live with daily workshops intended to educate and entertain!

“Tuesday Travels”

Visit the Museum every Tuesday in July & August, 10:30am – 11:30am, for a workshop featuring a different country or culture each week! This program is appropriate for all ages (though young children may need grown-up help) and is free with admission.

“Wear In The World Workshops”

Visit the Museum every Thursday from 10:30am – 11:30am in July & August for a textile craft! Each week will feature a different textile workshop, including making our own bookmarks, tie-dye t-shirts, pillows, and more! These programs are appropriate for all ages (though young children may need grown-up help) and are free with admission. Please visit our website and social media for an up to schedule of crafts.

“Sensory Friendly Mornings”

Thanks to our very kind donors, we are able to offer Sensory Friendly Mornings one Sunday morning per month, 10:00am – 12:00pm. Sensory Friendly Mornings are a time for families with children who have sensory sensitivities or are on the Autism Spectrum to visit the Museum for an experience catered to their needs. We’ll dim the lights, turn off our exhibit sounds, and provide sensory equipment as necessary (head phones, weighted vests, and fidget toys). We will also have a certified Special Education teacher on site to provide specialized programming and act as a resource for parents and caretakers. This program is free for families with children who have sensory sensitivities or are on the Autism Spectrum.

Events At The Museum: Jan. 1st -12th

The World Awareness Children’s Museum is excited to announce our continuing series of seasonally themed events at the museum for January 1st – 12th, including a “Russian Christmas Celebration”! Our upcoming events are as follows:

. Saturday, January 5th – Russian Christmas Celebration (11:00am – 12:00pm): Learn about Russian Christmas traditions at our museum Saturday, January 5th, from 11:00am – 12:00pm with special program instructor Natalia Carusone! We will do a Russian nesting doll craft, eat traditional Russian sweets, and hear a Russian holiday story! Event is free with general admission ($5, children under 3 are free).

. Wednesday, January 9th – Members Only Mornings (10:00am – 12:00pm): The museum will be hosting “Members Only Mornings” the second Wednesday of each month, 10:00am – 12:00pm, where members get exclusive time to visit and explore the museum. . Saturday, January 12th – Uttarayan Indian Kite Festival (11:00am – 12:00pm): Visit the museum on Saturday, January 12th for a truly spectacular event! Special guest instructor Neha Golwala will teach us about Uttarayan, the Indian Kite Festival! Children will hear a story about the festival, make their own kites, and eat some traditional Indian treats! Event is free with admission and runs 11:00am – 12:00pm!

**And don’t forget about “Early Explorers Play Group”, every Thursday from 10:30am – 12:30pm, which is time for caregivers and their children to visit the museum, enjoy some light snacks, and form a community of encouragement and acceptance. Cost: $2 per family.**

Parents’ Night Out At The Museum! – 12/21

 

The World Awareness Children’s Museum is proud to announce “Parents’ Night Out”, a time where parents can enjoy a night out on the town, or get some last minute shopping done as their children get set to enjoy time playing in the museum, watching a winter-themed movie, and enjoy some light snacks. Cost: Non-members – $20 per child / Members – $15 per child. Space is limited, so please call us at 518.793.2773 today to register (no children will be admitted without pre-registration). **Children must be potty trained in order to attend**.

 

 

Young Artists Competition!

The World Awareness Children’s Museum is proud to announce our Young Artists Competition, with submissions being accepted October 1st through November 16th! The guidelines will be as follows:

Submissions begin: October 1st, 2018.
Submission deadline: November 16th, 2018.
Jury decision: January 11th, 2019.
Finalists art show: January 18th, 2019.

– Entrants must be a resident of Glens Falls, NY and in Kindergarten through 8th grade to be eligible.
– Our theme for the year is “Water, Water Everywhere”. Limit of one piece per entrant.
– There is a $5 submission fee that must be included with the submitted artwork. Payment by cash only, please.
– Submissions must be two dimensional artwork and cannot be larger than 16 x 20 inches.
– The work must be framed or mounted. Complete, artistic, colorful works are prefered (pencil, crayon, pastel, watercolor, etc.)
– A short note about the entrants art is a welcome addition. Please include if available. It should be paper clipped to the corresponding artwork.
– To be included in the judging process for awards, all artwork must be received by November 16th. Please submit art to: World Awareness Children’s Museum, 89 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY, 12801 or education@worldchildrensmuseum.org.

We will require filling out our Young Artists Competition form, which you can find/download here.

Winners will have their art reproduced on mugs, postcards, magnets, and more!

Any artwork and materials, by submission to the Young Artists Competition become property of the World Awareness Children’s Museum and cannot be returned. All rights are assigned to the World Awareness Children’s Museum for use, distribution or reproduction in the best interest of the museum.
