Summer in Brazil

Our Summer in Brazil experience project invites children to become explorers at our Amazon Research Center. This experience project also looks at the culture and traditions of Brazil, as well Olympic sports in recognition of Rio de Janeiro being the host city of the summer 2016 Olympics.

ONE WORLD GALLERY

A child’s journey begins at the large world globe surrounded by unique art and artifacts colorfully displayed with projected images of the Museum’s international youth art collection.

KIDS CONNECT

Interaction with computer programs and interesting videos about world culture.

WORLD MUSIC

An opportunity for children to play interesting instruments like a balaphone, thumb pianos, and more.

THE MARKETPLACE

The Nigerian Marketplace features produce, scales, textiles, and bead stringing along with traditional clothing to wear.

HOME & FAMILY LIFE

Children wear a kimono, remove their shoes and enter the Japanese Tea House to learn about Japanese traditions, have a tea ceremony, use chopsticks, and more.

WORLD FASHION 

Clothing and costumes from around the world to wear, role play and admire. Beautiful kimonos from Japan and dance dresses from Spain are just a part of the Museum’s vast collection of traditional costumes.

GLOBE THEATER 

Dress up and learn easy steps to traditional dances. The stage is set for a child to create their own performance.

COUNT ME IN 

Match coins and stamps from around the world to the corresponding country on the wall size magnetic map.  Create rubbings of foreign coins, use stamps to design money, measure height, tell time in different countries, and learn about numbers in different languages.

 

EXPERIENCE GALLERY  

Board the boat with the dragon’s head at the front and his tail at the back, wear a team shirt, bang the drum and paddle through imaginary waters to win the Dragon Boat Race.

EXPRESS YOURSELF ART STUDIO

The Museum experience is enhanced as children provide their own artful expressions using markers, crafts, art supplies, and books of folktales and legends from different countries.
